The Pathology Testing Process

Modern medicine relies on the combined skills of Clinicians and pathology laboratories to manage a patient’s illness. At the heart of pathology is the care of the patient. The pathology laboratory must produce accurate and reliable results quickly in response to their clinician’s request.

The pathologists, with their blend of medical training and specialized training in the discipline of pathology supervise the laboratory investigations. The modern pathology laboratory is a complex operation that relies on the skills and teamwork of many people to ensure that each patient and doctor receives the best service possible. Therefore the modern pathology laboratory also requires the skills of highly trained professional scientists, technicians and skilled support staff to ensure that investigations are performed efficiently and accurately.

Any pathology investigation starts with collection of one or more specimens (Body fluids, tissues) from the patient. Doctors may collect some specimens; the laboratory can collect other samples. To ensure accurate results, it is necessary that samples are collected, stored and transported in proper manner.

At SRL Diagnostics Private Limited (Formerly Piramal Diagnostic Services Pvt. Ltd.) we place huge emphasis on this aspect called pre-clinical task to ensure accuracy in reporting. Once the specimen has arrived in the laboratory, it is registered and bar-coded to give it a unique identity. Thereafter depending on the tests requested, various expert departments get involved in the investigation. Some tests are simple and can be performed rapidly; more complex tests can take days. Some tests can only be performed by highly specialized laboratories and the specimens may need to be sent interstate or even internationally. The whole process is computerized and automated to ensure that you get accurate results.

Once the tests are completed and checked for accuracy, report is given to the patient or his doctor. SRL Diagnostics prides itself in being at the forefront of modern medical pathology practice. Every part of our operations is performed under an umbrella of strict quality control using the most advanced, accurate and reliable equipment.
